I am an advanced student designer and I would like to build my portfolio of sites to show my future clients. If you need a site built under ten pages in size for your online biz then email me as I will build it for you for free if possible.

| outages and slow, 29th 2007 October, 2007 |
| The owner who sends out the monthly newsletters to customers is a funny guy. He should be writing for Letterman. I have been a customer for 2 years. I still enjoy the newsletters, but no longer laughing as reliability issues have caused the growth of my online business to plateau. Also they are currently offering monthly hosting for far less cost than what I signed up for. About 2/3 less and I am still paying the original cost. I suppose they would lower my cost if I complained. My real beef is with the reliability. I think I am losing tons of traffic. I guess I won't know how significant until I move my domains to another host. |

| The transparency and the various features they offer are great, hard to pass on... Downtime has been a bit iffy lately but support is always decent. I use them for media rich sites because they offer streaming media hosting etc free with your account. Its tempting to find someone with more reliable uptime for smaller sites. |

I really enjoy DreamHost overall - the prices are absolutely amazing. However, I've had an unusual sort of problem that's been going on, on and off, for the last 10 years now: the server can't seem to keep time. It has occasionally jumped ahead or backwards days, weeks, even, rarely, months. The DreamHost staff don't seem to know how to fix it, or don't want to (they've increased the frequency of time syncing software to 5 minute intervals; not only does this not actually address the issue, it's not, apparently, working).
I don't think a problem like this is common, but DreamHost doesn't seem to take my complaint seriously - dismissing it as a minor problem (my site is very dependent on knowing the time) - and hasn't been able to solve the problem in almost a year, causing me on three occasions to have to restore the database from the backups which, thankfully, are automatically taken every 24 hours. |

i run a membership website.
Unfortunately, some members of my website done something terrible, that is spamming.
But the question is, there spam just by using Yahoo email, not the domain / email hosted in the DH hosting!
It just the contents that promoted my website.
How can u expect everybody not to spam. If it is as easy as 1,2,3..spamming will no longer an issues.
DH jusy terminate my account with out any warning...they just love to take your money and ...they sucks |

I have been a DreamHost client for 4 years now and I agree with the reviews under me about their service entering dangerous waters as of late. No doubt that their plans are some of the best (and very affordable for those who want quality but are a little stingy in their spending) to be found, along with their '97 dollars for every refferal' program.
I have been reading on their site about numerous server upgrades and outages too, but they seem to be getting back on their feet (although it seems that every sever outage has been on a server that I am not hosted on...) and I won't be suprised if they explode with popularity due to their kind and personal staff, as well as their upbeat employee-owned company ideals.
I highly reccommend them for a personal site, however if you are a company who can't afford one second of downtime, I suggest waiting a few months untill they are done upgrading their servers.
All in all, I'll never leave DreamHost. |

| While they have recently had their share of problems, DreamHost is very honest about the status of their servers and quickly work to fix problems. True, their service has gone down recently, but it's still better than everything else, and past performance has shown that they will rise back up out of their rut. |

I've been a customer of DreamHost for several years. I was generally happy with them, and I recommended them to all my friends / clients.
Over the last 3 months, however, they became less reliable. The outages used to be very infrequent, but now even their status pages post serious problems almost every day. They are still OK for personal use - but not for business - where clients may not find your website when they look it up, or you cannot rely on e-mail to arrange a meeting for the next day.
Their prices are very affordable - but as a business owner I'd gladly pay a few bucks more to someone who wouldn't let me down while I try to maintain communication with an important customer. |

I've been a Dreamhost customer since late 2001/early 2002. Originally fantastic, but over the last 6 months the quality of their hosting has tanked entirely.
For example, I have been able to access email for 15% of the last 3 months... authentication server problems, network problems, etc.
Recommendation is to avoid DH like the plague until at least 2007. They just have too many problems, don't know how to fix them, and have become completely unreliable. |

After reading so many positive reviews, I registered my own hosting DH account. Big mistake !!!
Not that they lack features, bandwidth or storage, actually they offer more than almost any other hosting provider. The problem is that they oversell thus the average server load is always above 30 or more. I've seen average loads of >90.
That sucks. Even the simplest php script makes websites slow as hell. Sometimes my web pages need more than a minute to render.
Avoid them! |
