Web Hosting Reviews and Ratings

I have been with them for over 4years. I had a virtual account and a dedicated account. Thank GOD their dedicated servers went to another company, cause Uplink went downhill in a blink of an eye. I am still trying to move customers off my virtual server and onto my dedicated server.

I have tried to call their billing hotline more times then I care to remember, each time, it goes straight to hold and I never get picked up.

Once I get everything moved, I figure I will just call my bank and have them stop any payments from them.

They lost so much info, and all emails my clients used to have, were wiped out and they (inlcuding myself) lost all of our older emails.

UPLINK - WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU!?!?!?!?!!
John King, 23rd 2008f September, 2008
Like many here, hosting was fine until spring/summer of 2008, at which point it completely fell apart. Their "platform upgrade" is a sham. Lost my database (never recovered), screwed up my billing, one problem after another and terrible customer service. I decided to cancel my account a few weeks ago and guess what? Couldn't do it online. It wouldn't allow me to change the status of my domain to deleted. So I called billing, figuring I'd have to just be on hold forever and have a Billing person manually cancel my account. Never got picked up, ever, in 2 weeks. So today I called in, but this time didn't select any of the options they gave on the menu, and just waited it out. Eventually the phone rang and a tech picked it up. I got him to cancel my account manually in the database. Now we'll see if they stop billing my Amex. I am skeptical....
Robin, 23rd 2008f September, 2008
Have been trying for a week to get all of my domain registrations moved. They never, never answer the phone and charged my credit card for the hosting plan I had cancelled. These people are crooks but I guess since they are now in Canada I have no legal recourse. I just hope they are running up a huge phone bill while I sit on their 800 number
Pierre-Marie PELE, 16th 2008f September, 2008
Awful support, no answer to my emails, I lost many datas and a domain name because they never reply.
I THINK UPLINKEARTH IS A BIG ROBBERY and I opened a file at the FBI Internet Fraud website.
Derek, 02nd 2008f September, 2008
I used to be a customer moved all of my hosting and domains in April 2008. This past week they started making attempts to charge my credit card even AFTER I had confirmation from them that all of my domains and hosting was cancelled. They have not responded to my emails yet which I sent to 4 people at the company - two of the email accounts of long-time techs of theirs bounced back. BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY!
Aqil, 02nd 2008f September, 2008
OMG I have never experienced more RUBBISH support.
I am trying to run away but they are not providing the authorization code to transfer my domain. Hotline is playing music and techs do not know anything.
I pray this company is closed asap. I don't want anybody to experience this kind of fucked up service!!!
Gene, 29th 2008f August, 2008
I'm glad I'm not the only one with complaints about this service. I cancelled one of my accounts that was hosted by uplinkearth, and they not only billed me anyway for it but they billed my credit card TWICE. Now I'm trying to get them to put the money back on my credit card, but apparently they can't figure out how to do this. IF YOU'RE THINKING OF USING THIS COMPANY .... RUN! RUN AWAY AND DON'T LOOK BACK!!!!!
Abe, 28th 2008f August, 2008
I never signed up with Uplink Earth. They bought out the company I was previously with this year and service has been pretty bad. Currently, I've been having trouble accessing my site and FTPing. I have to refresh about a dozen or more time before it finds the site. It's been like that for about a week or so now, and every time I try to contact their tech support, they can never find anything wrong with it.
Anonymous #1, 16th 2008f August, 2008
Thank GOD I am not the only one with this HORRIBLE service! We are in the process of jumping ship. We have been customers of ULE for over 7 years. Now we have been hung up on, had databases erased and taken offline for 3 weeks, and had our custom code changed to work on their "new platform". New platform my ass - it isn't your platform - it is the people you sold out to. I actually got through to one tech who gave me a number for someone who was at the "previous" ULE - and when I called, was patched through to what seemed to be a cell phone, fed a line of crap that he would help, and never heard back from him. What a horrible horrible organization. You know, I even stayed with them with over 40+ sites hosted through them and started to feel better after we received email blasts about their problems, etc etc. But SHAME ON THEM for selling their buy-out as a platform upgrade. DON'T TURN YOUR PHONES OFF FOR SUPPORT NO MATTER HOW SCREWED YOU THINK YOU ARE and NEVER TRY AND PULL THE SHEET OVER YOUR CUSTOMER'S EYES.
Erik, 05th 2008f August, 2008
Client for 10 years, dumping them. The past 6 months have been unbearable.
Bill Goodman, 30th 2008f July, 2008
Just checking in to see if ULE has completely sunk yet. It's like watching a car crash I guess. Luckily, I bailed on them back in March. It was the best move I ever made. If ANYONE has signed on with them in the past 9 months, they need to get their head examined. It's hard to believe but they somehow manage to get WORSE each passing week. For any remaining customers, cut your losses and get out now. Just start (new) somewhere else - your sites and code at ULE are toast!
joe, 30th 2008f July, 2008
my sites have been down for months, the logins don't work and the support do not reply, even the telephone doesn't seem top work !!!..........how can I contact them?how can I get my sites back............they seem to have disappeared?? Anyone have any ideas....................the worst thing is I have been with them for the past 6 years, and they have made my life and business hell for the past year !!!

avoid them !!
Raul Estaka, 26th 2008f July, 2008
I could not agree with you more, I used to host with uplinkearth.com too and the service was the worst of any business I have ever experienced, not only that they really have no clue as to what they are doing, imagine this, I have a e-commerce site with a shopping cart, I except credit cards in live time through a secure server, when they made the move to the new servers they screwed up the DNS really bad and did not copy all my files over, so to fix this thier 'techs' decided they would change the source code of my shopping cart without even asking me, telling me or even making a backup and to make it even worse it was some of the worst programming I have ever seen and exposed thousands of my customers credit card numbers to the public and my server was still down for a month. I have so many other horror stories with uplinkearth.com I could go on for pages and pages but i'll sum it up..... if you want your life to be a living hell and your web presence to be destroyed then by all means do business with uplinkearth.com
Gretchen, 24th 2008f July, 2008
If this company is still in business this time next year, I will be surprised. During the migration, I was told that my websites would be backed up and there would be no loss of service. My sites have been down over a month. Can't access my databases and now I'm told that there are no backups. I have lost all of my databases. Anyone thinking law suit?
Che de Bruin, 24th 2008f July, 2008
I would like to say that this company has the worst and rudest customer support that I have heard in my life. Their tech support is useless. In the past 4 days I have sent 25 email for the same problem and nothing has been resolved. I was with them before the migration to Canada when they based in New Jersey, and wanted to say Sammy Davis Jr., with his good eye poked out, would have done a better job at migrating my website. I’ve lost 2 MS SQL DB and 3 where offline for 2 weeks because they refused to send me the new login credentials. I don’t see this business staying around much longer. Customers are jumping ship like this is the Titanic.

2 very big thumbs down
Erik, 07th 2008f July, 2008
Another big 2 thumbs down. Was with them for 7 years. The past year has been unbelievably horrifying. They're loosing a LOT of customers.
Doug, 07th 2008f July, 2008
I'd like to chime in here, I'm in the process of moving 5 high end sites to another provider due to the total lack of professionalism and stability that Uplinkearth has shown of late. In addition to the security problems (hacked), they they transitioned to a new datacenter and decided to restore my MSSQL databases from backups over 2 months old in the new environment. These happened to drive all the product, descriptions, and content in two of my ecommerces sites, so in essense they erased two months worth of work. After more than 40 calls and a weeks downtime in which uplink support staff were modifying code in my site without my prior consent or knowledge, they managed to get everything to pseudo-stabile state. And for the icing on the cake ... the aforementioned downtime occured over a month ago. Two days ago one of their technicians decided to do the database restore AGAIN and blew out another months worth of products and descriptions. We are currently seeking legal consultation. I imagine others will follow suite if their experience has been anything like ours.
Jay Simon, 03rd 2008f July, 2008
WOW!! I guess I am not the only one who is tootaly fed up with this companies CRAP. What terrible service, and to add tot hat they hide behind a totally inept technical service group who says they do not even know who they work for. Ia sked for upper management and they say they do not know who they are or who they work for. I ask for some of my past contacts and they say they are on the old phone/platform and have no way to reach them.

This company is a disaster and you all need to get out quickly.
Ross Pidoto, 01st 2008f July, 2008
To echo everyone elses comments, avoid upLinkEarth like the plague!
I signed up in 2001, and it was ok for a few years. The technology was never upgraded (especially in regards to mail). My sites were then hacked, and they nicely blamed it on my password, despite my password being very secure.

It has since IMPLODED! They should give up now!
Stacy, 21st 2008f June, 2008
I canceled my Uplinkearth account and ended up going with GoDaddy as my new host. I was using them for domain registrations anyway and already felt comfortable doing business with them for several years. Anyway, I'm so impressed with what they're offering, such as pre-configured applications, and really great user interfaces. I haven't had to contact them for support even once because their stuff is so user friendly. The price is competitive and I am so happy I left Uplinkearth. I don't know why they took such a nose dive but I'm glad to be rid of them. I plan to tell everybody who will listen not to use Uplinkearth. I am so angry with them over the unprofessional way they have mistreated their customers. Seriously, what made them decide to suddenly implode? They used to be good. I just don't get it.
Robert, 20th 2008f June, 2008
The company of Uplinkearth should change its name to Unlinkearth. I have been a customer for 5 years and this last few weeks have been HELL dealing with there" new platform" and migration.
I am losing customers by the minute because of my site has been down for 7 days. The support says that I did something to it and it is not there problem. Wow . I'm going file a suit against them. Who wants to join me.
Geoff, 15th 2008f June, 2008
Uplinkearth has gone completely down the tubes. I was one of their most loyal customers but this is the last straw. They just migrated everyone over to some kind of hybrid Windows/Linux server and everything is just completely broken. No sub domains came across intact , none of my virtual IIS applications are working, none of my directory permissions came across, so I can't even write to my database. Worst of all, they don't seem to be hosting with IIS, they are spoofing it somehow (badly), so anything that relies on IIS won't work. FOr example they are not rejecting requests for th App_Data folder, so anyone can download your site's database. Everyone should recognize how serious that is. They are trying to focus on their dedicated server customers, so they seem to have pawned the rest of us off on some cut rate operation tha has no idea what they are doing. I am sad to leave them because I have been a loyal customer for more than five years, but they finally just pushed me too far. I would absolutely not recommend them to anyone in the state they are in now. In fact I would recommend that you avoid them at all costs if you are looking for Windows hosting. They used to be the best, but with the changes they have made, they are nto even worth looking at.
Stacy, 20th 2008f May, 2008
This company has imploded. I was a happy customer for years, but this year all of a sudden its been HORRIBLE. On top of many issues over the past months, this weekend they just moved to a new platform. All my email addresses are now missing. There was no proactive communication letting me know they'd be gone and I'd have to recreate them all. Everything was down for an entire weekend. They don't even bother apologizing for their terrible service and ridiculous downtime. I am canceling them this weekend and going with another host. Suggestions?
Stan Trujillo, 18th 2008f May, 2008
I bet that a book on the internal meltdown of this company would be hilarious. But from the customer prespective, hasn't been funny at all. Now customers have been "upgraded" to a new platform, which is to say "sold" to Hostpedia. The new platform is terrible, and they migration was a joke. They didn't even move e-mail over. I'm out of there, after five years.
James, 09th 2008f May, 2008
I've had these guys for 4 years. They were good (but a little pricey) until last year when they took a nose dive!! I luckily wasn't running an e-commerce site, but it was still hacked with everyone else! Plus, they've had tons of down time, control panel inaccessibility, etc etc. CANCEL NOW!!!!!
David, 30th 2008f April, 2008
Well I called it, uplink has officially sold out to hostopia, get ready for more interruptions in service and god knows what else. get out while you can.
Jack, 04th 2008f April, 2008
Back in the day uplinkearth was good but the past several months have been hell with them. My sites have been hacked into several times, email servers have been unresponsive or taken totally off line because of attacks to them. Then they try to fix the problem by using a white list which took several hours to get your ip listed and would only last a few hours - it was grueling trying to get any work done and I lost a lot of billable time because of the outages and ip white listing craziness - do youself a favor and look elsewhere...
Anthony, 11th 2008f March, 2008
Jake, yeah, thanks for pointing me to google. Wow. That's amazing. You can search for anything. I just did a search for CATS. Omigod. there's so many cats. Thanks Jake! Do you like cats?
Jake, 11th 2008f March, 2008
Anthony,

ULE is bad, but you are just as bad if you can't figure out how to download your Mysql DB. I mean come on, you might want to try that new fangled thing called SEARCH Google has a good one. It's the easiest thing you could do when it comes to backups.
Anthony, 10th 2008f March, 2008
I signed up to HostMySite. Man, I couldn't take it anymore. These guys are seriously horrible. They don't answer AT ALL anymore. Anybody know how to download the mysql DB from Uplinkearth, if that's at all possible.
Getting Out Now, 09th 2008f March, 2008
It's incredible how bad UpLinkEarth has gotten. No security at all it seems. Everyone's webs are getting hacked. FTP access is so restricted now it's almost useless and nearly impossible for any kind of updates. I'm taking all of my webs (40 +) to HostingAtoZ.com. Ben Forda high rating, but a minimalist service. Ok so far.
At witts ends, 08th 2008f March, 2008
I'm moving off of Uplinkearth asap due to the relentless hackings to my site and others as well. No matter what they try to do to stop it, my sites continue to get hacked into. I'm going with HostMySite for my main site and GoDaddy for my smaller sites. The things uplinkearth have put in place to prevent hacking (like time limit ftp accounts) are ineffective and just a royal pain in the butt for me.
Grant, 07th 2008f March, 2008
If you need ColdFusion hosting, check out http://www.hostmysite.com. For .NET Hosting, I like www.discount.asp.

UplinkEarth used to be a good provider. I began using them in around 2001 for lots of smaller ColdFusion websites and even some larger sites. Their problems really began late last year (2007) and have continued to get worse and worse. I would highly discourage anyone from using UplinkEarth for their web hosting needs at this point.
Jeff, 06th 2008f March, 2008
uplink is a joke. I have been a customer for years. This month marks the 1 year anniversary of their snowballing and never ending security issues. My sites, as well as other colleagues of mine have been getting hacked for months. They used to blame it on weak passwords, now they are getting hacked at a system level with internal user accounts. They try to hide it by "cleaning" the infected files but most of the time only end up blanking out your index files and leaving your site a blank page dead in the water. Fast forward a year and they have been getting hacked on a regular basis and their answer is this pathetic white listing system in which you have to give them your IP in order to gain FTP access. Problem is most ISP's use dynamic IP's that change almost daily. I will be leaving very soon and I will be urging all my friends and colleagues to do the same.
David, 06th 2008f March, 2008
I can tell you this, this place is going out of business. I can hear it in the voices of all the employees I talk to there in both Tech Support and Accounting. I can tell they are burnt out and are only pawns in the joke that is their managements greedy little game. The management is a joke. There is no management. It seems all their reactions to their problems are knee jerk reactions. They obviously have no clue how to run a hosting company.

Get out while your still alive.
Kelly White, 06th 2008f March, 2008
Been a customer of theirs for years but the company is SO DIFFERENT now. their service & security are a joke - we're gone and taking all our clients with us.
Anthony, 06th 2008f March, 2008
Anybody else's websites that utilize MySql been down all week? Losing lots of business.
Kerry Lewis, 06th 2008f March, 2008
terrible provider. I am working to try to get my sites moved to another provider for all the problems listed by the other users here. I wont take the time to say the same things they have. They need a new staff of engineers with better security skills
Anthony, 05th 2008f March, 2008
Anybody know of an alternatives to Uplinkearth that offer CFM MX and PHP?
Im fed up. These guys are terrible.
melissa, 04th 2008f March, 2008
Hacked again today.
gokan sahin, 28th 2008f February, 2008
very bad service. no response to tickets. as soon as I get my files i'm outta here
John Harold, 25th 2008f February, 2008
It was great for four years. Now everything is falling apart. It's time to get out FAST. All of the reviews seem to be right on. I've had all of the same issues. No support, continued hacks and changing of passwords is wreaking havoc on my business. STAY AWAY!!!
Andrew, 25th 2008f February, 2008
I have been with UE for years and agree with all messages below. After years of next to flawless services there are now more issues than I can count. Email issues, FTP issues, hacking, poor customer and technical support, and beyond. The ship is sinking. I've spoken with them regarding their issues and they simply to have the man power or resources to hold up. I would highly recommend anyone but UE at this point.
Jim, 22nd 2008f February, 2008
Their final solution to the intrusions? IP whitelist for their customers. If you don't register by 6pm today, you're suspended until Monday. How many developers access their sites from more than 1 location? I do. They used to be great, their a sinking ship now.
Jeff, 21st 2008f February, 2008
Yet another "emergency ftp suspension" today. I agree that they will not be in business in six months. I'm ready to switch and contact the BBB.
Laura, 19th 2008f February, 2008
I can't imagine that this company will be in business in six months. Customer support seems to have quit responding to open tickets, websites are hacked frequently, and services are often down for days.
Scott, 15th 2008f February, 2008
THey were great for 5 years, then everything imploded. We sites getting hacked, email down for days, no support staff to fix the issues. I switched to webhost4life.com. So far so good. Only time will tell.
Steve N, 07th 2008f February, 2008
I have been with uplinkearth for about 3+years. I am a developer since 99 and they started out good. THen they began having issues, esp with mail. I had the 10 domain plan. They use imail which is horrible. Mail is lost or never delivered or returned, and they typically say stuff like "looks good on our end. try rebooting". They recently got hacked multiple times where the attacker would upload a javascript into every default/index page on every site. They blamed it on the users with weak passwords. So if a user has a weak password, why were ALL their sites hacked? They also removed the timestamp on their online ticket based support system. I used to think they were great. Then I'd get random session timeouts prematurely (like after 5 min), then the mail issue, etc. When they were small they were hungry and took care of all their customers. Then they started just ignoring the people who got them where they are in favor of their dedicated server customers. Worst service ever. They had basically one tech that knew what he was doing (CHris Nicholas). The rest of them were complete morons. Robert Marton is one of the morons, Scott Rodenbaugh, while not a complete moron, was marginally not a moron. They know it is hard to switch hosts after you go through all the trouble of moving multiple sites to their servers. So they are cool in the beginning, then they start to fade away.
Chase, 04th 2008f February, 2008
I have hosted 8 - 10 sites with uplinkearth (for SQL and Access support) for 7 years, but everything seems to be slowly falling apart during the past 7 or 8 months. Twice in that timeframe my sites have been hacked, we have had problems sending e-mails, and the worst of all--it will not let me log into my control panels at different times. I regret the problems, because I have like their service in the past.
Rob b, 24th 2008f January, 2008
I've been on this host for several years, they have always had uptime issues, but in the last 6 months the servers are bot controlled. javascript phishing schemes are injected into the code web sites main root document, ie. index default etc..., what's interesting is i can go in and clean up the code and save the infected code in a different file and after an hour the root file is infected again and the different file i saved is clean, I believe they would a script that runs on the server that checks and cleans the injected js. Lately i check on a friends site that is still on there and it's hacked.. the root file for the site is wiped clean with a js include to a js file that is empty... I moved off they hosting two weeks ago and now my sales are better than ever, i sell an engineering program, i really believe they had serious uptime issues, and email lags and at times not able to get email for hours and bam it works again. They were not secure and then got hacked and it's that simple, i don't believe that it's a simple as ftp hacks as many web sites are affected on the same server and the it has to be a injection of the javascript that leads me to believe the server is comprimised... My Opinion on this.
Buyer Beware, 19th 2008f January, 2008
For four years with three dozen web sites it was great. The last 10 months have ben horrible. Outages, hacks, forced resetting of FTP passwords have created client nightmares. If they're working through to improve service they should say something but no communication makes me think their business is failing horribly.
Carter, 19th 2008f January, 2008
I have had terrible problems recently with uplinkearth as they have not updated my webstats for two weeks, I was hacked at least once and my monthly traffic has falled from over 400,000 to about 150,000 and they don't respond to my support tickets.???
Derek, 16th 2008f January, 2008
I, too, have been fed up with their recent (late 2007/early 2008) security problems. FTP accounts get compromised (through well known exploits that sniff FTP login packets) and bots are able to work the servers, injecting viruses and redirects through iframes added to index pages. It doesn't matter how well you secure your own accounts, you get hit by the weakest link on the server. I've asked ULE repeatedly to provide (heck, require) secure FTP access, but they don't even support it. FTP logins travel in the clear, free for the taking by exploits that script kiddies can easily install.

It's not just uplinkearth, BTW, but ule seems to be doing the poorest job lately of dealing with it (i.e., mostly denial and refusal to implement effective measures, instead sending out "it's happened again, change your passwords again" emails every couple of weeks). See: http://www.mezzoblue.com/archives/2007/06/05/unsettling/
SCM, 16th 2008f January, 2008
Same problems as all the above - now moving to a new host - Steer Clear From ULE!
Al, 15th 2008f January, 2008
Postively fed up with these people. Absolutely no response and they turn off their phones. Can anyone recommend another Windows/ColdFusion hosting company we can check out and switch to?
Larry, 15th 2008f January, 2008
We have one of their best plans (Titanium) with numerous sites and the latest issues with them makes one wonder if they know what they're doing! They turned off phone support for days, don't respond to service tickets, lock out accounts at will, etc. Positively horrible and can potentially cost us client business. We're looking for new hosting.
Jeannette, 14th 2008f January, 2008
Dittio with all the compliants. I have had issues for the last couple of weeks and now I can't even get to the file shares to retrieve my code. They sent back an email saying it was my database connection and the database was down. I had no problem connecting to the database on my test server. The upgrade has went belly up and it looks like the business has also gone. I have tried to call several times and no answer.
Ian Parker, 14th 2008f January, 2008
The last month or so there have been repeated service outings. I've had several emails asking me to change logins and passwords for control panel and FTP, I have done. Now I cant log in, I presed the request new password link...and was told they would email me a new random password. I can't log in to the mail server to get it !!! and I cant get anything other than a message saying they are not ansering phones for the last 5 days. I finally tried pressing random buttons while listening to the message and got through to tech support answering machine ! Bloody awful service, I'm losing money, my clients are losing money, 2 of my websites have gone offline and I cant get to my main email account.
WHAT is going on there anybody???
If tech support read this phone me +44 (0)1452 739208 so you can get my login sorted and enable me to get the whole lot OFF your servers and moved to another host.
Yours rather pissed off in the UK

Unbelievably terrible customer service. I've never experienced someplace this bad in my 12 years of designing and hosting Web sites. Yet another reason to only go with *nix based hosting companies.

Terrible Customer Service during their transition with several unexplained outages. More than a few unanswered trouble tickets. We are moving our business elsewhere, and would discourage anyone from working with these morons.

They are going through a major overhaul and move to a new data center, but every part of it is going wrong. After DNS and email began puking on its shoes they shut down phone support for a week. Oh yeah, and during this period they were hacked twice, but that's been going on every week since November, so we are used to that now... Turns out they had user passwords in plain text and I'm 90% sure our box was rooted.

Several security related problems (hacked websites) over the past six months means that we are planning on switching from uplinkearth to a new web hosting company in the immediate future. We were, however, happy with uplinkearth for the four years prior to these security related incidents.

For the last 8 months they have been hacked numberous times, they go down at least 3 times a week. Sometimes for hours. The server loses settings that effect all sites and cause hours of wasted time. What once was the best has become only the solution for non-serious hosting.
Steven Ellis, 27th 2007f January, 2007
I manage two low-end websites on uplinkearth.com. I am pleased with the prices and I have noticed downtime only once in the last two years. Support has been outstanding. I get quick, but not cursory responses to my issues.
